How can I ever say thanks enough
to Dr. Johnell for giving me back my life? Just
15 months ago I weighed 288 pounds and wore a size
26-28. I now have lost approximately 114 pounds
and wear a size 12-14.
My primary care physician said
that if I didn’t lose weight soon, I could
count on having some major health issues within
the next 5-6 years. I was already having trouble
with high blood pressure and severe pain in my knees
and hips. With my family medical history, I was
also headed for the possibility of having adult
onset diabetes and heart problems.
I was 53 years old, and a new
grandmother. I wanted to be able to play with my
new granddaughter and watch her grow up. My husband
and I are looking to retire in a few years and I
wanted to be able to travel and enjoy retirement.
I knew that I had to do something. I had tried just
about every diet that had come around. I’d
lose about 30 pounds, get discouraged, and gain
it back and more. This continued for about 30 years
until I reached 288 pounds. Then a friend shared
with me that there was a doctor that did gastric
bypass surgery and could help me. I thought about
it for a couple of weeks and then made the decision
to make an appointment with Dr. Johnell. I am so
glad that I made that decision.
On February 27, 2002 I had a
Roux-en-Y gastric bypass done. My surgery went very
well. I had no complications. I attribute my success
at weight loss to following Dr. Johnell’s
instructions to the letter. I exercise daily. I
walk a minimum of 4-5 miles a day. I am working
up to 8 miles a day. I do weight lifting 3 times
a week. The pain in my knees and hips is gone. I
don’t have to take any blood pressure medicine.
I can go up and down stairs and don’t have
to stop halfway up and catch my breath. I have more
energy and I feel great. What more could I ask for!!!
I feel that Dr. Johnell and his
staff really have a love and concern for the obese
person and want to help them have a more healthy
and happy life.
