Hi, my name is Clare from
Greeley, Colorado.
When I was young I was a very
active teen-ager. I was a cheerleader, a dancer,
Homecoming queen, and a finalist in the Miss Central
Pennsylvania contest. In college I met the love
of my life and we were married. (36 years ago) I
had found my “calling”, being a wife
and mother. I had 11 children. They were between
19 months and 2 years apart. After each pregnancy
I seemed to keep the weight on. I called it my baby
fat. I tried every diet and exercise program I could
find, but being a busy mother, it was very hard
to do. I would lose and then get pregnant again,
and gain it all back plus more. I had my last baby
at the age of 43. I thought that I would be able
to lose then, but it didn’t happen. I was
very frustrated and hated to look in the mirror
anymore. My self-esteem had diminished severely.
I hated buying clothes, because it seemed like I
kept getting bigger. I went to my Dr. at Greeley
Medical Clinic and asked him if he could help me.
He gave me some options and one of them was to visit
with Dr. Johnell, who specialized in Bariatrics.
I thought about it for a while and then made the
appointment. It was one of the best things I’ve
ever done!
I was very impressed with the
Bariatric staff, the meetings and all the support
that I received and still receive. On October 16,
2002 I had my lap-band surgery. The first month
I kept wondering if I had made a bad choice, because
it was a very difficult adjustment. Now, 9 months
later I know that I made the right choice. I am
only 25lb’s away from my goal, and it is hard
to believe. I’m so happy, I feel good about
myself and for the first time since I’ve graduated
from High School, I’m really looking forward
to going to a class reunion.
